The hotel receptionist appeared mortified by the strong arm tactics of this hotel manager. reps were horrified and apologetic and tried their best to resolve the issue. I had to get on the phone and after several hours of more threats from the hotel manager was able to leave with our luggage. Gets crowded on weekends mostly in the evenings however, alm. The kicker was when we tried to leave the next day the manager took our luggage hostage and demanded that we pay for all 3 night or have expedia/ email him in writing that they would not charge the hotel their commission. Lavinia beach is popular because it is close to Colombo the commercial capital of Sri Lanka. The pool was good but you stunk of chlorine when you came out. The rooms were musty but the A/C was adequate.
